Liver cirrhosis is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in Republic of Moldova. Therapeutical interventions targed to this pathological entity are multiple and they are used in different fields. Surgical treatment of portal hypertension, caused by liver cirrhosis, remains one of the most debatable problems in modern surgery. This article relates the impact of portal hypertension (HTP) surgery on the evolution of chronic liver disease (CLD), occurrence of postoperative complications, the management features of the surgically treated cirrhotic patients and reference elements of the benefits in terms of survival and disease-free interval.
