Abstract

Introduction. Annually, in the world, 11% of all births are premature, and 1.0 of 6.0 million of infant mortality is associated with complications of premature babies.

The aim of the paper is to make a comparative analysis of the morbidity of full-term and premature newborns, in the Republic of Moldova.

Material and methods. The study was conducted according to traditional methods based on existing statistical data at the National Agency for Public Health, for the 2009-2018 years.

Results. The total incidence rates are: 267.9‰ (2009), 308.3‰ (2010), 333.8‰ (2011), 381.5‰ (2012), 386.6‰ (2013). In 2014 it decreases to 385.3‰, and in 2015 – to 369.4 per 1000 live births. In 2016, the values decrease to 341.9 per 1000 live births. In 2017, the values drop considerably to 341.9 per 1000 live newborns. The incidence of full-term and premature babies is higher in urban areas than in rural areas. At the level of municipalities, the incidence increases from 330.9‰ (2009) to 349.5‰ (2010) and to 605.3 per 1000 live births in 2017.

Conclusions. The highest incidence rates were recorded for: "Some diseases originating in the perinatal period", followed by "Congenital malformations, deformities and chromosomal abnormalities", "Pneumonia", "Infections of the skin and subcutaneous tissue". Premature birth presents an increased risk in the development of diseases.
