EVOLUTION OF HEMORRHOIDAL DISEASE CLASSIFICATIONS. THE DEVELOPED CLASSIFICATION: IES

Abstract

Introduction. Hemorrhoidal disease is one of the most common anorectal pathologies worldwide. Accurate classification is essential for selecting appropriate treatment and comparing therapeutic outcomes. Despite numerous classification systems, none fully integrate anatomical, clinical, and etiopathogenetic criteria.

Aim. To review existing classifications of hemorrhoidal disease and introduce a novel, comprehensive system — the IES classification (Internal, External, Supplementary criteria) — developed based on clinical observations and surgical needs.

Materials and methods. A theoretical and practical analysis of international classifications was performed, followed by clinical implementation of the IES system in 150 patients with advanced Hemorrhoidal disease.

Results. The IES classification allows detailed description of internal and external hemorrhoidal nodes, their localization, severity, complications, and supplementary clinical parameters, ensuring accurate diagnosis and individualized treatment selection.

Conclusions. The IES classification is an innovative and practical tool that enhances diagnostic accuracy and contributes to more personalized therapeutic management of hemorrhoidal disease.
