Context. Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, is a medical approach that adapts treatments and disease prevention measures to the individual characteristics of each patient. This approach is based on the detailed analysis of patients' genetic, biological, behavioral, and environmental information, in order to provide more effective and better targeted medical solutions. The concept of "health-related quality of life" has gone beyond the strictly biomedical assessment of disease, integrating the patient's physical, mental, and social well-being.
Perspective. This editorial examines the development of personalized medicine and the emerging concept of personalized public health in relation to the transformation of the public health system in the Republic of Moldova. It discusses technological, economic, ethical, governance, infrastructure, and workforce challenges that may influence the adoption of data-driven and precision approaches in public health.
Conclusions. Personalized public health may represent a future direction for public health system development, but its implementation requires appropriate governance, data infrastructure, professional competencies, sustainable financing, and safeguards for equity and privacy. The editorial proposes directions for further policy development and professional discussion in the Republic of Moldova.
