THE FACULTY OF PREVENTIVE MEDICINE (HISTORICAL PAGES)

Abstract

The paper presents arguments for strengthening the training system in preventive medicine and public health in the Republic of Moldova. Established in 1963, the faculty underwent several stages of development, both in its designation (Hygiene and Sanitation, Preventive Medicine, Public Health) and in the structure of its training programs, including subinternship, residency, and master’s studies. The historical-narrative analysis highlights a period of institutional development during 1963–1990, followed by successive reorganizations and a decline in student enrollment and the attractiveness of the field. The authors consider that stronger cooperation between the Ministry of Health, the National Agency for Public Health, and Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy is needed to improve the training of public health specialists.
