Abstract

Objectives. The main aim of the article is to assess the utilization of digital technologies in monitoring and managing the pandemic, highlighting the benefits, challenges, and associated ethical implications.

Methods. The article relies on a comprehensive review of existing literature and relevant case studies regarding the use of digitalization in COVID-19 epidemiological surveillance. Various technologies and methods are examined, including mobile applications, big data analysis, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things in the context of pandemic management.

Results. The article emphasizes that the digitalization of epidemiological surveillance has played a significant role in managing and controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of digital technologies has enabled rapid and efficient data collection, virus transmission monitoring, rapid outbreak identification, and intervention measures implementation. However, certain challenges have been highlighted, such as concerns regarding data confidentiality, unequal access to technology, and the risk of discrimination.

Conclusions. The digitalization of COVID-19 epidemiological surveillance brings both benefits and challenges. To maximize the benefits and minimize the risks, special attention must be paid to ethical aspects such as data confidentiality and non-discrimination, and ensuring equitable access to digital technologies to support public health efforts.
